Profit and Loss Consulting (P&L Consulting), a business advisory firm specializing in niche communication services was this weekend honored for the best Financial Communication Campaign of the Year at the 2017 Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK) Awards for Excellence.

The event which was held in Mombasa on Friday attracted a total of 62 entries in the 13 categories.

The Financial Communication Campaign category award recognizes communication practitioners who have employed strategic financial communication approaches to communicate with shareholders, investors and other financial stakeholders hence contributing to a company’s bottom line.

The entry submitted by the firm showcased the firm’s transformational communication campaign for local Investment Bank, Genghis Capital, after Chase Bank was placed under receivership. P&L Consulting midwifed the transaction and has supported the business continuity communication. This is first time since the inception of the PRSK Awards that has been a financial communication category.

“Kenya’s financial sector has witnessed a lot of changes in the last two years. Some of these changes have been for the best while some have gravely affected many livelihoods. The opportunity to support Genghis Capital through the transition after Chase Bank was placed under receivership allowed us to play a significant role in making Genghis Capital the only success story in terms of seamless continuity. We are humbled to have been recognized for our efforts,” said Mercy Randa, the Firm’s Managing Partner.

Genghis Capital went through ownership changes in 2016, which was a tumultuous year for players in the financial sector. P&L Consulting was retained to manage communication around the Investment Bank’s acquisition transaction by Overtime Capital Limited after Chase Bank was put under receivership. The assignment extended to stakeholder engagement post the transaction where the main focus was to support business continuity and the turnaround under the new shareholders.

“P&L Consulting’s expertise in financial communication has enabled us to build better relationship with all our stakeholders. Their strategic communication counsel has led to improved engagement with our diverse audiences and has sustainably grown our voice in the market as a reputable wealth manager even in light of how we started this journey,” said Geoffrey Gangla, CEO, and Genghis Capital.

P&L Consulting, a fairly young and new player in the communication space have cemented their presence in the market with their niche offering, taking up technical assignments previously outsourced to foreign firms with the required expertise. The firm lists Investor Relations, Financial Communication, Litigation Communication and Crisis Management among the practices they focus on.

“I owe great thanks to the hard-charging professionals on our team who helped bring an inclusive and rewarding work environment that contributes to delivering the best for our clients. As much as we would want to savour this moment, this recognition inspires us to sharpen our expertise in this category and the other niche services that we are establishing in the market," Ms. Randa added.
